At long last, the highly anticipated, twice-delayed 2009 Topps UFC product shipped to retailers on Monday packing several instantly noticeable improvements from February’s wildly successful debut release, 2009 Topps UFC Round 1.
We were lucky enough to get our four-ounce-gloved hands on an early box, the key results of which you’ll find after the jump.
In addition to a more-foiled base-set aesthetic, Topps raised the bar considerably in terms of photography (much crisper and way more impactful) and insert design, upgrades that are most apparent on the Mat Relic and Autograph cards.
The 15-card Photo Finish insert is must-see material that features moment-capturing reminders of some of the UFC’s most memorable recent KOs, TKOs and submissions.
While Topps officials delayed the product in an effort to get Kimbo Slice’s first certified autograph cards into packs, the extra time also allowed the company to include a touching tribute to TapouT co-founder Charles “Mask” Lewis, who was killed in a March automobile accident.
Stay tuned to Beckett.com tomorrow for what promises to be a hard-hitting edition of Box Busters. For now, enjoy some of the first live images of the product.
