The current sports card landscape has a lot of sets with big designs. In basketball, a lot of these, like Prizm, Donruss Optic and Mosaic, use chromium as their foundation. 2020-21 Panini Certified Basketball pushes a lot of its checklist into the realms of bright, bold or both. It does so with its trademark use of foil, though, not chrome.
One of the earliest products of the NBA season, hobby boxes come with two autographs.
2020-21 Panini Certified Basketball Checklist Overview
Certified’s anchor base set has a total of 200 cards. Of these, 50 are rookies from the 2020 NBA Draft. Mirror parallels, one of the cornerstones of the brand, include several colors including Camo, Gold and Black. This is where a lot of the bright colors come into play as they pop off the foil. Parallels average one per hobby pack — ten total per box.
Of the two autographs in every hobby box, one is from the year’s crop of first-year players. Rookie Roll Call return for another year. Freshman Fabric Signatures do as well. These also include a swatch.
Legendary Signatures delves into the NBA’s past with retired players.
Inserts, which fall eight per hobby box, is where some of the biggest looks in the product are found. Rookies are cast against a colorful graffiti backdrop in 2020.
Top players in the league get the Gold Team treatment once again.
The Mighty returns after a one-year absence. Although colorful in the past, this time around it stands out even more.
