Space might not be the final frontier for sports cards, but that’s where 2022 Topps Cosmic Chrome Baseball heads for inspiration. The set has lots of bold designs and colors throughout its checklist. But one thing it isn’t heavy on is autographs. While they’re out there, signatures are not among the product’s guaranteed box hits.
2022 Topps Cosmic Chrome Baseball Checklist Baseball
A total of 200 cards make up Cosmic Chrome’s debut base set. It’s a blend of veterans and rookies.
Using chromium stock, the overall look is colorful and abstract, putting it in a similar vein as Bowman’s Best and Finest.
Of course, with anything Chrome comes Refractors. The spacey rainbow includes:
- Refractors – 1:10 packs
- Nucleus Refractors – 1:20 packs
- Blue Moon Refractors – /99
- Gold Interstellar Refractors – /50
- Orange Galactic Refractors – /25
- Black Eclipse Refractors – /10
- Red Flare Refractors – /5
- Superfractors – 1/1
Inserts
Cosmic Chrome sticks with big designs for its handful of inserts. The themes might seem a little out there as well.
Overall, inserts should appear fairly regularly. However, some are much easier to find than others as Topps continues to shift into offering more short print chase sets.
Star Gaze is the most common, landing 1:4 packs. These also have the most parallels of any insert set with Gold Interstellar Refractors (/50), Orange Galactic Refractors (/25), Black Eclipse Refractors (/10), Red Flare Refractors (/5) and Superfractors (1/1).
Collectors should also find multiple Rocket Arms (1:5 packs) and Launched Into Orbit (1:10 packs) in every hobby box. These have additional Black Eclipse Refractors (/10), Red Flare Refractors (/5) and Superfractors (1/1).
Youth Invasion is a case hit. The die-cut cards include a flying saucer either beaming a player down to Earth or taking them away. It’s all about perspective. Red Flare Refractors (/5) and Superfractors (1/1) are the only parallels here.
According to Topps, Supernova inserts have just 100 copies each — at least for the base versions. Black Eclipse Refractors (/10), Red Flare Refractors (/5) and Superfractors (1/1) add a little to the overall number.
Elusive Autographs
Overall, autographs land approximately four per hobby case. That’s an average of 1:3 boxes.
Cosmic Chrome Autographs and Star Gaze Autographs both have Orange Galactic Refractors (/25), Black Eclipse Refractors (/10), Red Flare Refractors (/5) and Superfractors (1/1) to go with their base versions.
The checklist also include Launched Into Orbit Autographs.
