A Bowman brand came off the calendar for this year and 2015 Topps Strata is replacing it.

Topps revealed the first looks at Strata as a standalone brand on Tuesday and it was with some technology we’ve seen in football before — a signature rivet patch card of San Francisco Giants star Buster Posey.

Strata was introduced in baseball last year as an autographed Relic insert in the standard Topps set and was done again this year. This time, though, it will be a standalone product.

Strata is coming to baseball and it’s including some of the biggest names in the game with some of the biggest pieces possible with nothing but hits in single every pack.

And it’s all under plastic.

Set to arrive on Dec. 9, 2015 Topps Strata will include one autograph and one Relic per box and 12 boxes per case.-Every other box, according to Topps, will include an autographed Relic instead of a standard one. Every autograph will be signed on-card.



Every Clearly Authentic Auto Relic will have a jumbo swatch with an MLB hologram sticker. Each will have nine parallels based on color or memorabilia inclusion. Blue, Green, Black (/50) and Gold (/25) will be your rainbow, while Red will be the home for 1/1 MLB logo, laundry tag, button, button hole and Majestic logo pieces. The unsigned Relics will have the same rainbow and volumes.

Strata Signature Patches will have a jumbo jersey and be limited to 25 with Gold (/5) and 1/1 Red Rivet parallels.

Strata Signature cards will me made of layered acetate with team logos showcased behind the sigs. They will have Gold (/25) and 1/1 Red parallels. Meanwhile, Strata Autographs will showcase a mix of more than 30 past and present players with Orange, Blue, Green, Black (/50), Gold (/25) and 1/1 Red parallels.

A preliminary checklist was not released.

It started as a basic football set with a cool box hit. Then Topps Strata moved over to baseball, but only as a tough insert in flagship sets. Now, it’s something all its own. The 2015 Topps Strata Baseball checklist is straightforward, but it’s not so much the affordable product it originally was. Rather, the 2015 Topps Strata Baseball checklist is another that’s all-hits. Boxes have just two cards per pack — an autograph and a relic.

Layered shadowbox-style cards are a key to much of the cards. Something a little different is that all the Clearly Authentic relics can be tracked to the exact game they were used in. They have an authentication sticker attached from MLB, thus taking away a lot of the vagueness that surrounds many memorabilia cards today.

As far as styles go, 2015 Topps Strata Baseball is one of the most basic of the year. The product is made up of just five types of inserts plus parallels.

The 2015 Topps Strata Baseball checklist is a mix of hobby standouts, good players that might not have a big following, young players and some that will leave a lot of collectors hoping for something better. Player wise, it’s like most every other product in this price range where there are winners and losers.

Strata Baseball cards have appeared in Topps’ flagship product over the last couple of years.

The unique, multi-layered cards have been some of the favorites of collectors as they have pulled these cards from products. The cards often contain a unique patch piece with layered acetate to create an impressive looking card.

Strata releases on Wednesday as a standalone product. 2015 Topps Strata Baseball contains two cards: one relic and one autographed card in every box. A Strata autographed relic will fall at a rate of every other box.
