Panini America Bringing National Treasures to Baseball? The Great Dale Murphy Knows.



It’s not every day that a legendary baseball player the likes of Dale Murphy breaks a big news story in the sports card world. But that’s exactly what the former Atlanta Braves slugger and two-time NL MVP did last week. Turns out the four-time Silver Slugger Award winner with 398 career home runs and 1,266 RBI is every bit as powerful with social media as he was at the plate.

After all, it took less than 140 characters earlier this month for Murphy to announce to the collecting world that Panini America’s super-premium juggernaut, National Treasures, would soon be making the long-awaited transition to the diamond.

With one swing or one Tweet, “The Murph” packs a wallop.

Murphy’s impromptu behind-the-scenes snapshot of his latest signing session with Panini America caught the attention of his almost 35,000 Twitter followers, many of whom were quick to pick up on the fact that those were indeed National Treasures cards he was signing. Once Murphy himself confirmed as much with a follow-up Tweet, the resulting buzz was tangible — and so were his cards once they arrived back at Panini America HQ a few days later.

The results speak for themselves, and foretell of a blockbuster 2012 National Treasures Baseball product that’s deep into development as we speak. We don’t have all of the details on the product just yet (Murphy might, though); but what we do know is that several other baseball legends, current stars, rookies and a few potential-packed youngsters have since returned their on-card signatures for a dazzling debut clearly steeped in massively sized pieces of game-worn memorabilia, hard autographs and big-time “wow” factor.

It’s been teased, but now more can be told.

Panini America‘s basic product breakdown for 2012 National Treasures has been released and the debut of the high-end line in baseball is one that will include a heavy Hall of Fame presence as well as a selection of modern-day stars.

All in a Treasured-style — date and price not yet determined — eight-card box that includes just autographs and memorabilia cards.

Oh, and one booklet card is guaranteed.



The set will be comprised of 150 standard cards and 75 rookies with the following features:

– Triple Crown Winners. These memorabilia cards will highlight those who have claimed the crown since 1901 up to the 2012 winner, Miguel Cabrera. The cards will be limited to 99 or fewer copies and will include the likes of Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Ted Williams and more. In all, 11 winners will be seen on cards.



– Button cards. Each limited to eight or fewer copies, there will be game-used button cards in this one for the likes of Gehrig, Jim Thorpe, Jackie Robinson, Joe DiMaggio and Roberto Clemente, who were among the 11 mentioned on preview materials for the product.



– Bat knobs. These 1/1 creations will showcase the often-personalized end of the bats swung by legends. Among those mentioned by Panini? Honus Wagner, Clemente, Gehrig, Williams, Cobb, Albert Pujols, Joe Jackson, Foxx and more.



– Rated Rookie Signature Materials. These will be limited to 25 and showcase on-card signatures from top active newcomers along with pieces of game-used patches, per the sales materials for the product. Matt Moore, Will Middlebrooks, Brett Lawrie, Jesus Montero and more will be found here.



– Rookie of the Year Jumbo Prime Materials Gold and Rated Rookie Prime Materials Gold. Each limited to 25, these cards will showcase notable rookie stars of the past season. Mike Trout will sign 25 cards, while Bryce Harper and Yu Darvish will appear on 25 cards in those sets as well.



– Hall of Fame Logo Signatures and Membership Signatures. As previously teased, this set will showcase autographs from Cooperstown’s available signers.

– Jumbo Diecut Prime Signatures. This one, also previously teased, will utilize a silhouette-style embedded game-used patch piece along with an on-card sig for legends from the past as well as popular players. These were the cards teased via Dale Murphy while he signed them on Twitter last year.

The booklet presence will include memorabilia as well as some cut autographs and include many of the legends mentioned in other sets. The cards will be limited to no more than 25 copies.

Overall, the product will include, according to Panini, 77 of the 100 MLB All-Century Team players. In addition, the company claims that it includes debut game-used memorabilia cards for Wee Willie Keeler, Goose Goslin and six other players.

除了卡看起來很國寶，連價位也跟NBA/NFL國寶差不多
預計一月底發售
1箱有4盒，每盒有8張球衣/用品(沒有普卡!比一般國寶好)

塞了很多老人...

結論:領了年終獎金可以小拆一盒...

2012 National Treasures Baseball Shines in a Panini America Pre-Packout Preview



While the sports world’s collective attention over the last few days was largely fixed on Houston and the myriad festivities surrounding yesterday’s 2013 NBA All-Star Game, a small contingent of folks from Panini America worked quietly and diligently preparing the landmark premiere edition of 2012 National Treasures Baseball for an intensive packout process that begins in earnest today.

The pre-packout process — in essence scrutinizing every single card intended for inclusion in the product and placing them in their pre-determined collation loops — started early last week and didn’t conclude until late Friday. But being in Houston prevented The Knight’s Lance from witnessing the process firsthand. Luckily, though, Panini America’s Ben Ecklar and Carlos Torrez provided the following sneak-peek images.

While the stunning array of Ty Cobb, Lou Gehrig and Jackie Robinson collection-making booklets are must-see material, we think you’ll find the cut autographs of Evel Knievel and Amelia Earhart (along with a piece of her airplane) to be quite profound, too. Enjoy this early look at just some of the jaw-droppers slated to appear in 2012 National Treasures Baseball. We’ll have much more on the product later this week.

Hot-Button Topic: Panini America Prepares 2012 National Treasures Baseball (Gallery)



In the interest of full disclosure, know this: I didn’t get to the office until after 1 p.m. today. But I have a really good excuse: I spent my entire morning — and some of my afternoon — over at the Panini America production facility as Stephanie Carlson, Ben Ecklar, Micah Layton and Carlos Torrez put the finishing touches on packout and quality control for 2012 National Treasures Baseball.

Truth be told, there’s no place else I’d rather be following a long weekend on the road — and over the course of the next several days, you’ll understand exactly why. Today, however, we have visual proof that Panini America’s most super-premium baseball product ever is all buttoned up and ready to go.


Indeed, among the  myriad magnificent memorabilia inclusions slated for 2012 National Treasures Baseball, perhaps the most unique, most visually arresting and most likely to start a conversation are the product’s many game-worn button cards. These rare cards (most are numbered to six or less) incorporate buttons from game-worn jerseys worn as recently as last season and as far back as early in the last century.

The checklist is a generation-spanning sensation that includes — among others — Bryce Harper and Yu Darvish, Lou Gehrig and Satchel Paige, Whitey Ford and Reggie Jackson, Nolan Ryan and George Brett, Burleigh Grimes and Yogi Berra and many, many more.
