When Panini America‘s 2011-12 Limited arrives in late May it won’t just be packing the latest and greatest in autographs and memorabilia.

It will be packing redemption cards for the first rookies of this year’s NBA class — and next year’s crop, too.

Limited is one of three 2011-12 products that will take this approach with the other two being the forthcoming Past & Present and the forthcoming Gold Standard.

While full details are still forthcoming from the company, what is known about Limited is that each $100 (or so) pack will include one Draft Class autograph redemption card inside along with one autograph, one memorabilia card one parallel and a selection of base cards when it arrives on May 30.



While a full slate of what’s in store has not been released, the company has noted there will be a heavy emphasis on prime swatches and lower-numbered chase parallels.

Several Prime autograph insert sets also will be found in the product, including:

– Jumbo Jersey Numbers, limited to five or fewer copies.

– Decade Dominance, limited to five or less.

– Glass Cleaners, limited to five or less.

– Trophy Case, limited to 10 or less.

– Retired Numbers, limited to five or less.

A couple of other ink-focused inclusions — but clearly not everything in the mix — will include Limited Trios Signatures (three autos; 49 or less) and Potential Signatures, which will showcase some of the league’s top young stars.

In late May, just as the 2011-12 NBA Playoffs are heating up, Panini America will do its part to add similar sizable sizzle to the hoops hobby with the release of 2011-12 Limited Basketball, re-engineered for the new season with more than 10 unique autograph designs, a 200-card base set and special Rookie Redemption cards good for players from the 2011 and 2012 NBA Drafts.

Each six-card pack of 2011-12 Limited Basketball will deliver one memorabilia card and two autographs from a lineup that includes an updated Glass Cleaners roster and the all-new Trophy Case insert.

Other highlights of the product that will be packaged 15 packs to a case include:

• A list of superstar signers that includes Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Dirk Nowitzki, Derrick Rose, Magic Johnson, Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, Larry Bird, Bill Russell and Shaquille O’Neal
• The Trophy Case Signatures Materials Prime insert featuring the greatest accomplishments of the greatest players in NBA history along with an autograph and prime game-worn memorabilia piece
• Glass Cleaners Signatures: In the spirit of the set’s name, look for a clean, classic design along with autographs from the game’s best rebounders — both current and retired
• The Limited Trios Signatures insert featuring player combinations from the same teams, eras and positions
• The Potential autograph insert incorporating signatures from the game’s top young talent and quickly rising stars
• Decade Dominance Signatures featuring autographs from the game’s most consistent and long-tenured players
• The new Masterful Marks insert honoring 50 up-and-coming NBA players as well as the game’s most-seasoned veterans

As the 2012 NBA Playoffs carom quickly into the Conference Finals, hoops activity inside Panini America headquarters is heating up at a similar clip. In the last few days, we’ve been pleasantly inundated with heaping helpings of on-card autograph arrivals for highly anticipated products such as 2011-12 Limited Basketball and 2011-12 Gold Standard Basketball.

Most of the gems that have arrived so far for those two products have been signed by some of the greatest legends in NBA history; after all, many of today’s current stars are busy trying to get their teams to the NBA Finals.


In the coming weeks, we’re sure to have tons more sneak previews to profile right here on The Knight’s Lance. Today, however, is reserved for Limited. Tomorrow, perhaps, we’ll share some glimpses of the glorious Gold Standard.

We’re still a few days away from Friday’s release of 2011-12 Limited Basketball, which means we have loads of time left to preview some of the unadulterated brilliance of the product’s myriad memorabilia-infused insert sets.

As the countdown to tomorrow’s official release of 2011-12 Limited Basketball enters its goose-bumpy final hours, collector excitement for the product is palpable. And if you don’t believe us, check out the feedback we’ve received so far on our sneak-peek episode of Panini Unwrapped and our gallery from earlier this week showcasing just some of the magical game-worn memorabilia cards in the set.

Today, we plan on sending collector anticipation into overdrive with one more massive, majestic look at some of the prime-piece game-worn greatness included in the set. Today, we focus on the prime-memorabilia parallels for such superstar-laden inserts as Trophy Case, Glass Cleaners and Decade Dominance.
