I could attempt to explain the print-technology wizardry that proudly permeates the upcoming release of Panini America’s 2012-13 Prizm Basketball. But instead, I’ll let the official Product Information Sheet speak for me: ”Prizm delivers a familiar, but dramatically improved, technology that has been missing from the basketball hobby.”

That description in concert with the preview images below should tell you all you need to know about this promising new addition to the Panini America NBA family.

2012-13 Prizm Basketball (six cards per pack, 20 packs per box, 12 boxes per case) features a 300-card base set including 100 rookies (the continuation of Panini America’s massive and historic Double Rookie Class), Prizms and  Gold Prizms parallels, four themed insert sets and a 100-card autograph that includes Prizm variations.

The product, which ships in late October, places a premium on design- and photo-driven inserts that play to Prizm’s extraordinary print technology; each box will yield two Prizms parallels, two autographs and two additional inserts.

Other highlights include . . .

• Etching on each card — base and insert — that brings a 3D effect to the Prizm printing technology
• Two autograph cards per box
• A USA Basketball insert that pays tribute to the gold-medal-winning 2012 US Basketball team with a patriotic design
• A Finalists insert incorporating the game’s biggest champions and superstars

Hypnotic. Alluring. Intoxicating. Stunning. Poignantly . . . prismatic. Look, I could go on and on (and on and on) describing the myriad enchanting effects that the upcoming 2012-13 Panini Prizm Basketball has on me. But all of us here at Panini America would be way more interested in hearing what you think about the bold newcomer to our 2012-13 NBA roster.

Things is, we don’t have finished cards to show you just yet for the product that starts shipping November 5. What we do have, however, are two vibrant uncut sheets that were delivered to Panini America HQ earlier this week. We shared a glimpse of the base 100-up front form during our Panini Unwrapped episode starring 2012-13 Threads Basketball. Today, we’re going to share a whole lot more.

In the days since that filming, we’ve received a second sheet of fronts, this one showcasing the captivating Green Prizm parallels. Seeing as how our Panini Peek preview on 2012-13 Prizm Basketball is our sixth most-viewed post of the last 90 days, we know Prizm, is a product in which you’re keenly interested. Here’s betting the following 27 preview images elevate that interest level quite a bit. Take a look and let us know.

A few weeks ago we had the distinct pleasure of spending quality weekend time with a few uncut sheets of the upcoming 2012-13 Prizm Basketball, the technologically gifted new product launching later this month. That day, we were graced by two different 100-up forms: One previewing the etched-holographic greatness of the retail-exclusive Green Prizm parallels, the other showcasing the set’s base cards.

Today, we get the chance to make more blissful sheet music by exploring one of Prizm’s 100-up autograph forms. While they’re not quite the finished product, the fronts and backs of these sheets provide a unique look at a product before it gets backed, sliced, diced and delivered.


This particular form features the Prizm autograph parallels; there’s also a base version of the autographs, too. As something of a huge bonus, we’ve also provided your first look at the hard-signed cards of Lakers superstar and Panini America exclusive Kobe Bryant.

It’s another tantalizing preview of a product that seems to be ascending on the hype meter by the day. Today’s gallery is likely to accelerate that process.
