Panini America Offers Extended First Look at 2013 Hometown Heroes Baseball

Boasting a breadth of old-school design quirks, timeless throwback collecting nuances and an abundance of good, old-fashioned fun,  Panini America’s 2013 Hometown Heroes Baseball looks to jettison collectors back in time when the product releases in early October.

Each hobby box of 2013 Hometown Heroes Baseball (12 packs per box, 24 cards per pack) will deliver three autographs, three SportDiscs (yes, those SportDiscs), five State parallels, one ZIP Codes parallel and an assortment of creative inserts that includes three Curtain Call, two City Hall, two Defining Moments, one Nickname, one Rivalry and one Homegrown Heroes.

The product’s highlights are many and include:

☆A 300-card base set that features players from the last six decades.
☆SportDiscs: Think back to those lenticular action coins that were found on the bottoms of the cups from one of your favorite summertime beverages. You’ll find new players featured on these SportDiscs — three in every box.
☆Left Their Marks: Players can leave a mark with fans in different ways, both on and off the field. Whether it’s sprinting on the field, doing back flips or just dominant game performances, these players Left Their Marks and are featured in this insert.
☆Scripted Legacy: Combine a Hall of Fame induction speech with a signature and you’ll have a Scripted Legacy. Some of the game’s all-time greats can be found in this set. And just like the players featured, these cards will be treasured.
☆Nicknames: Getting a nickname is the rite of passage for a baseball player, but getting one that sticks and becomes as recognizable as the player himself is incredible. This set features some of the most recognizable nicknames in the history of the game: Ryno, The Kid, Dr. K, Joey Bats and more.
☆Hometown Signatures: This on-card autograph insert features players that have a strong following. Known for their hard-nosed play and interaction with fans on and off the field, these players have shown what it takes to become fan favorites.
Three autographs and 19 additional inserts or parallels per box.

Panini America Previews the On-Card Autos Coming to 2013 Hometown Heroes Basebal

Some of the most beloved baseball players from the last 45 years — cult heroes, fan favorites, flashes in the pan, Hall of Famers and more — are sure to command interest from all walks of baseball fandom when Panini America’s appealing, throwback-themed 2013 Hometown Heroes Baseball set releases in early October.

Popular names from the frolicking, more-recent past of America’s pastime — guys like Lenny Dykstra, Tom Brunansky, Tony Pena, Andres Galarraga, Willie Wilson, Oscar Gamble, Rob Dibble and many more — have headlined the early on-card autograph arrivals for the product. At this point, it’s hard for me to determine which is more impressive: The checklist, the superior penmanship of the men on it or the Seventies-screaming design.


So, since I can’t decide, I figured I’d present this special Sunday gallery to you to get your thoughts. What follows, then, are examples of the first 36 signers who’ve already returned their autographs for inclusion in 2013 Hometown Heroes Baseball. Panini America Peeks Latest Batch of Autos for 2013 Hometown Heroes Baseball

If he played professional baseball in the Seventies, Eighties or Nineties and left an indelible impression on you for any number of reasons, chances are he has an on-card autograph in Panini America’s upcoming 2013 Hometown Heroes Baseball. MVPs, World Series winners, saves leaders, home run champs and some of the most colorful characters the game has ever known are honored in the set’s Hometown Signatures insert.

And say this about the players on the checklist no matter what they did on the diamond: They’re all heroes of handwriting today, possessors of poignant penmanship whose bold, full autographs could forever serve as “How To Sign Certified Autographs” examples.


And the players featured — Will Clark, Jay Buhner, Ozzie Guillen, Matt Williams and so many more — are right at home in the quirky, retro-cool confines of Hometown Heroes, a pulpy, throwback tribute to the simpler times and trading cards of yesterday.
