Flawless First Look: Panini America Sneaks a Peek at New High-End Basketball Set

In the span of three or four meaningful, myth-dispelling Tweets yesterday afternoon, Panini America sent shock waves throughout the collectibles industry that still are reverberating more than 24 hours later. Just like that, rumors buzzing all over about Panini America a) landing Damian Lillard autographs and b) releasing a mysterious high-end 2012-13 NBA-licensed product ceased being rumors and became cold, hard facts.

We let news of Lillard’s first NBA-licensed certified autograph trading cards — which first hit yesterday in 2012-13 Innovation Basketball and will follow in 2012-13 Intrigue, 2012-13 Immaculate and 2012-13 Flawless — carry the day yesterday. Today, we’re turning our focus to the mysterious Flawless and the fantastic first specimens from that product that have arrived back at Panini America HQ.


True story: The first on-card autographs signed for Flawless were penned by Lillard himself. Not a bad way to start building a product that will deliver seven autographs, two jumbo memorabilia cards and a diamond- or emerald-embedded card in every $1,250 pack. No card in the set will be numbered higher than 25 and there will be a maximum of 20 complete base sets available. Diamond-encrusted base cards will be numbered to 20, and will be paralleled by an emerald-embedded version numbered to five and a diamond-embedded 1/1 version. 2012-13 Flawless Basketball is slated to release in early October.

We’ll have plenty more to flaunt on Flawless in the coming weeks right here on The Knight’s Lance. 這組感覺會超過國寶的最大原因除了卡價高過國寶很多之外就是有Damian Lillard卡面簽,
國寶少這張跟後面這超高單價比起來被超級好多.
不過話說現在panini是搶錢成這樣....1盒(包),10張要價1250USD.....
價格也太高了吧.....1盒就要4萬了...

PANINI是不是今年換過設計師？
全是白色的簡潔風，看多了，等於沒有設計感。
價格不說了，商業行為，無可厚非。
但現在似乎把錢都投在拉韋德、利拉德入夥，反倒是卡的設計有些糟糕。
去年12-13賽季剛開始的時候那些個小系列，prestige啥的
卡反而設計的有味道。

Kyrie, Shaq Headline Stunning Early Batch of 2012-13 Flawless Basketball Arrivals

With Panini America’s 2012-13 Intrigue Basketball slated to arrive in hobby shops on Wednesday, that leaves two remaining NBA products on the 2012-13 release calendar — and both are going to be huge. One is 2012-13 Immaculate Basketball (which we previewed a while back and will showcase in greater detail later this week); the other is 2012-13 Flawless Basketball (which we teased to incredible buzz a few weeks ago).

If you saw that original post on The Knight’s Lance, you already know that 2013 NBA Rookie of the Year Damian Lillard will have on-card autographs in Flawless. But he’ll be joined in that product by fellow ROYs Kyrie Irving and Shaquille O’Neal as well as some of the greatest current superstars and retired legends the NBA has ever known.


But we mention Irving and O’Neal specifically today because they recently returned a jaw-dropping array of on-card Flawless autographs to Panini America HQ — and we simply couldn’t wait to show them off.

Their impressive handwritten handiwork follows in the gallery below, and foretells of the greatness to come in 2012-13 Flawless Basketball. We’ll have much more on this history-making release right here on The Knight’s Lance in the coming days. If you missed our world-premiere unveiling of the 2012-13 Flawless Basketball trailer earlier today, do yourself a favor and watch it — either now or after you’ve checked out the first of our must-see preview galleries below. To be sure, there’s an air of mystery surrounding the exact makeup of the most expensive trading card product in Panini America history and over the course of the next few days, we’ll begin replacing the intrigue with cold, hard facts and countless breathtaking images.

If you’ve seen the 2012-13 Flawless Basketball trailer, you know by now that the product comes packaged in 10-card metal briefcases. What you might not know, however, is that every one of those briefcases includes either a diamond-embedded base card numbered to 20, an emerald-embedded parallel numbered to five or a diamond-embedded parallel numbered to only one. Real diamonds. real emeralds. For real.


In the gallery that follows, we profile just some of the precious gems that make 2012-13 Flawless Basketball’s base set perhaps the most extravagant ever produced. Every diamond- or emerald-embedded base card is secured in a protective case before pack out.

Inside Flawless: Jumbo Patches Pack ‘Wow!’ Factor for 2012-13 Flawless Basketball

The trailer has been criticized, panned, applauded, scrutinized, laughed at and picked up by the mainstream media. The diamonds and emeralds have been previewed. Indeed, yesterday was a busy day for screening various aspects of Panini America’s 2012-13 Flawless Basketball. And now that yesterday is over, we can get down to peeking the myriad other pieces of flawlessness hand-placed into the product’s “sleek, Bond villain-esque” metal suitcases. (By the way, that’s not our description of the packaging, it’s how SI.com’s Extra Mustard described it, but we happen to love it.)

Today we’re going to pull the curtain back on the obscenely fantastic jumbo patch cards permeating the 2012-13 Flawless Basketball checklist. From Silver versions numbered to 25 all the way down to only one, the sickness of Flawless’ jumbo memorabilia selections simply can’t be overstated.

Inside Flawless: Signed-Patch Masterpieces Dazzle in 2012-13 Flawless Basketball



Two weeks from today, one of the most anticipated basketball releases in trading-card history will finally arrive to anxious collectors. Indeed, although 2012-13 Flawless Basketball has been delayed slightly to allow time for the final remaining on-card autographs to be returned for packout, the wait promises to be well worth it. We’ve shown many of the reasons in a series of riveting galleries over the last week or so.

Today, we provide another one.
