Call it the “Product Heard ‘Round the World.” Panini America on Thursday announced that it will be producing a standalone Prizm product devoted to 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, a development that effectively takes one of the company’s most popular technologies global while creating a compelling product sure to be coveted by an international audience.

Boasting an autograph checklist that will easily go down as one of the greatest ever assembled for a soccer release, Panini America’s 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil Prizm set includes signatures from the likes of Lionel Messi, Pelé, Cristiano Ronaldo, Robin van Persie, Clint Dempsey, Tim Howard, Jozy Altidore, Ruud Gullit and many more. Set to release in late April, each box of the product (six cards per pack, 24 packs per box) will deliver eight Prizm inserts (featuring a new array of regionally inspired color combinations) and five insert cards.

In addition to the list of signing stars mentioned above, some of the other confirmed signers for the set include: Frank Lampard, Mesut Özil, Xavi Hernández, Andrea Pirlo, Radamel Falcao, Ronaldo (Brazil), Didier Drogba, Jürgen Klinsmann, Carlos Valderrama, Franz Beckenbauer, Steven Gerrard, Luis Suárez and 30 additional current and retired stars.

The debut release is chock full of history-making soccer cards. Some of the highlights . . .

• Prizm presents one of the best signature checklists in soccer history featuring base versions, Prizm Signatures (numbered to 25 or less) and Black Prizm Signatures 1/1s.
• Combo Signatures presents high-profile and highly sought after autograph pairings. These cards are all numbered to 10 or less and include a Prizm parallel version.
• World Cup Matchups features some of the most intriguing on-pitch pairings in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, both in group play and potential knock-out round matches.
• World Cup Matchups (as well as all other base and insert parallels) feature several regionally inspired Prizm parallels including Red, White and Blue Prizms, Yellow and Red Prizms, and Blue and Red Prizms.
• The set also features Blue Prizms (numbered to 199 or less), Red Prizms (numbered to 149 or less), Purple Prizms (numbered to 99 or less), Green Crystal Prizms (numbered to 25 or less), Gold Prizms (numbered to 25 or less), Gold Power Prizms (numbered to five or less) and Black Prizm 1/1s.
• World Cup Stars chronicles the best performances from past tournaments as well as impact players who will make their appearance in this year’s event.
• Lovable and kid-friendly, Fuleco, the 2014 FIFA World Cup mascot, makes an appearance as a super short-printed insert (two per case, on average).
• The Team Photo insert includes a Team Photo for each of the 32 teams participating in 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.
  

The product features a 200-card base set featuring players from all 32 teams qualified to participate in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Between the Sheets: Panini America Sneaks Peek at 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil Prizm



We’ve had a front-row seat to the collectibles kickoff of the global sensation that is the FIFA World Cup in recent days as Panini’s 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil Sticker Collection has started popping up in retail locations across the world and on iCollectPanini.com. The resulting frenzy, however fascinating, is sure to pale in comparison to what we see around the world as the 2014 FIFA World Cup draws closer in the next few months and the Sticker Collection continues arriving in retail locations.

For millions of rabid World Cup collectors across the globe, the Panini Sticker Collection is must-have material; a feel-good family affair that spans generations and ranks up there with breathing and eating as daily requirements for several months every four years. Of course, all of this World Cup excitement this week got us at Panini America thinking about another 2014 FIFA World Cup collection generating a fair amount of buzz in its own right: The 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil Prizm trading card set.

We’ve been noticeably quiet on the Prizm World Cup front since our initial announcement in late February. But a lot has happened in the last six weeks or so. A slew of collection-making autographs from superstars and legends has been returned. The first 100-card form has been designed and printed, complete with an absolutely stunning array of colorful parallels. In fact, when we first caught a glimpse of that first form, we simply couldn’t wait to show it off.

So that’s what we’re going to do today. What you’re about to see is the first form of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Prizm set — and all of its parallels — in their glorious uncut-sheet form. Keep in mind that this is just the base-card form. In the coming days and weeks, we’ll share more sneak peeks of the insert sets and autographs right here on The Knight’s Lance.

Golden: Panini America Grabs New Looks at 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ Prizm Set



One tell-tale sign that the release of Panini America’s highly anticipated 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ Prizm set is swiftly approaching can be found in the number of new uncut test sheets — delivered hot off the presses from the production facility across town — hitting Panini America HQ these days. Just last week we shared with you some sneak peeks from the product’s base and Prizm parallel forms. Today, we have your first golden glimpses of some of the set’s insert sets.

Earlier today, we spent some quality time fine-tooth-combing one uncut Gold Power Prizms sheet featuring the Cup Captains, Matchups and Team Photo insert sets. The following gallery showcases the fruits of that process.

While not quite the finished product, these images do serve to pull the curtain back just a little bit more on one of the most exciting sports card releases of the year. Feeling the Blues: Panini America Previews More 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ Prizm



When a normally innocuous florescent office light bounces just right off a brilliant-blue uncut sheet of cards graced with Panini America’s Prizm technology, well, it can be quite the arresting development. It certainly was yesterday, when I discovered yet another new arrival teasing the impending greatness of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ Prizm set.

The product begins packing out later this week and in advance of that, we’ve shown you plenty of uncut-sheet previews of the World Cup set in the last week or so. The Kickoff: Panini America Begins Packout for 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ Prizm



You’ve seen preliminary product information from that initial headline-grabbing announcement in late February. You’ve seen the uncut sheet previews here, here and here. Now, following so much pre-release buzz, we’re finally ready to start showing off some honest-to-goodness finished cards from Panini America’s 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ Prizm set, a release that could very well go down as one of the most globally collected trading card sets in . . . well . . . forever.

And that would likely be true even if 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ Prizm didn’t feature arguably the greatest soccer autograph checklist ever assembled (which it does). But we’ll get to that legendary list of signers next week. Today, we’re bringing you up close and personal with some of the set’s shimmering insert cards and their various splendid parallels — just some of the results from the packout process that began in earnest late last week.

Some of the product began shipping to international destinations earlier this week. U.S. collectors can expect to find the product on shelves starting around May 7. Trust us, though, we’ll have plenty more previews to share between now and then. Signature Moment: Soccer Legends Signing for 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ Prizm



The road to creating a first-of-its-kind trading card product like Panini America’s 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ Prizm, much like the road to the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ itself, can be a long, arduous journey. The results once you get there, however, are every bit as spectacular.

When Panini America officials set out last summer to build a trading card set that combined the collecting world’s most popular technology (Prizm) with the world’s most popular sporting event, they aspired to craft the single greatest autograph checklist in the history of soccer trading cards. When the 50th and final soccer superstar — Roberto Carlos — returned his autographs last week, that once-improbable mission became a blissful reality, resulting in a 100-percent, redemption-free product.


A project that began in earnest last July was finally completed almost nine months later. And as you’ll see in the revealing gallery that follows, a lot can happen in nine months.

“Setting the goal of zero redemptions early on was definitely nerve-racking,” said Alex Carbajal, Panini America’s Licensing Acquisitions Manager for the Prizm World Cup set. “A lot of time was spent communicating and planning the logistics with return shipments and answering questions regarding the signings. The international time zones didn’t always gel with ours, so answering the phone in the wee hours of the morning from a foreign number became a common practice.”

So did anxiously scouring incoming parcels for the gradually arriving autographs of World Cup legends. The first four signers to return autographs — Frank Lampard, Frank Rijkaard, Marco Van Basten and Roberto Baggio – did so on the same day in early December. The aforementioned Carlos returned his last Thursday from all the way in Turkey and just in time to make packout.

In between, Panini America HQ was a destination of special deliveries from some of the greatest soccer superstars of all time including Pelé, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Franz Beckenbauer, Jürgen Klinsmann, Neymar, Clint Dempsey, Bobby Charlton and many more.

“I was surprised to hear how many players collected the FIFA World Cup™ stickers in the past,” Carbajal said. “There were many fond memories from the players. So the ‘Panini’ name really brought back fun memories of them collecting or seeing their first sticker as a player.”

Panini’s FIFA World Cup Prizm set includes more than soccer stars



Collectors aren’t the only ones in the soccer mood. With the FIFA World Cup ready to begin next month, athletes are enjoying the global event too.
Panini released 2014 FIFA World Cup Prizm soccer cards this year. The cards featured dozens of soccer players from across the globe. But one interesting subset has caught collectors’ attention – Fans of the Game.
This autograph subset included just two names: football’s Andrew Luck and basketball’s Kobe Bryant.


According to a Panini spokesperson both are huge soccer fans and were exciting to be included in the FIFA World Cup Prizm release.
