Finest will return in 2015 with some new features but the same iconic feel and format that it’s carried for years.
That was the main thought Tuesday as Topps teased 2015 Topps Finest, which arrives in June with two autographed cards in each master box.
The base set will consist of 100 cards — a mix of established stars and newcomers — with nine parallels and four printing plates per card. New will be Prism Refractors, while there also will be standard, Purple, Blue, Green, Gold, Orange (/25), Red (/5) and 1/1 Superfractors. (Other quantities were not released but nearly all will be serial-numbered.)
There will be Black Refractor Hot Boxes where every card is a Black Refractor, a rookie redemption program for autographs of notable newcomers and three new types of inserts to chase. Finest Firsts will highlight rookies with three types of parallels for the standard cards — Refractor (/25), Red (/5) and 1/1 Supers — while autographed versions will have a rainbow that includes Blue, Green, Gold, Orange, Red and 1/1 Supers as well as plates. Numbering for those will be similar to the standard parallels.
Also in this one will be short-printed versions of cards in the base set with three parallels — Refractor (/25), Red (/5) and 1/1 Supers — as well as a nod to the 1995 Finest set with the same three rarer versions to chase.
On the insert side, there will be Finest Generations cards that showcase past players with the same Refractor (/25), Red (/5) and 1/1 Super parallels as well as an autograph version. Finest Careers diecuts will take a look at 10 players with these found one per case. They also will have the Refractor (/25), Red (/5) and 1/1 Super parallels.
For autograph collectors, there will be one-per-case Finest Greats autos with Gold, Orange, Red and 1/1 Supers as well as plates. Meanwhile, some players will be paired with Finest Affiliations cards. They will be numbered with a Red (/5) and 1/1 Super version. The standard autos will have a bit larger rainbow of parallels — Blue, Green, Gold, Orange, Red, Supers and plates.
A preliminary checklist and additional pack/box details were not released.
