2016 Topps WWE Road to WrestleMania trading cards tell the stories of what happened at WrestleMania 31 through the lead up to the 32nd edition of wrestling’s biggest event. And for the first time, its release coincides with the final push before WrestleMania. In the past, the product has come out mid-way between one WrestleMania and the next.

Hobby boxes deliver lots of inserts as well as a pair of autographs or memorabilia cards.



Base Set



The 2016 Topps WWE Road to WrestleMania base set has 110 cards. The delve into WWE storylines, starting with WrestleMania 31 in San Francisco  and continue through the ensuing year. The 2015 edition has some WrestleMania 31 cards already. The cards in 2016 are new with images and events not covered in the earlier release. Matches and other moments from TV, pay-per-views and special events are also included.

The final 25 cards feature the first story-based cards for NXT. These chart events from WrestleMania 31 Axxess through NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn, which took place the night before SummerSlam.

Parallels come in familiar colors but with newly branded names. WWE Tag Team Bronze are common, landing every other pack. Hobby-exclusive Divas Silver are one per box. Intercontinental Gold are limited to ten copies each while WWE World Heavyweight Red are one-of-ones.


Inserts



Sticking with the trend of many recent Topps WWE releases, many of the inserts are rather common, creating simple sets-within-a-set. WrestleMania 32 Roster cards make up one such scenario. Falling one per pack, the 30-card set features Superstars who participated in WrestleMania 31 and might factor into 2016’s event.

WWE Immortals (1:6 packs) creates cards for ten characters from the mobile game that turns wrestlers into mythical beings.
On a more somber note are nods to a couple of legends who recently passed away. Rowdy Roddy Piper Tribute and “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes Tribute are both inserted 1:6 packs. Each of the ten-card sets highlight key moments in their respective careers.

The Rock Tribute (1:6) takes a similar approach to the Hulk Hogan inserts from 2015. The full set will have 40 cards, however, only the first ten are found here. The remaining 30 will be spread across other 2016 Topps WWE products.


Autographs and Memorabilia Cards



Basic autographs come with on-card signatures and are serial-numbered. Superstars and Divas from both the main roster and NXT are included. Multiple levels of parallels exist. Among them are Printing Plates, which use stickers instead of being hard-signed.

Dual Autographs have a pair of signatures. Among the rarest cards in 2016 Topps WWE Road to WrestleMania, each is numbered to 11.

Shirt Relics is a standard memorabilia set that has swatches of clothing worn by wrestlers. These have multiple parallels including Printing Plates.

Battleground 2015 Ring Canvas Relics and Turnbuckle Relics (/25) use pieces from the ring used at the pay-per-view where Seth Rollins and Brock Lesnar went to a no contest thanks to a returning Undertaker.

Appearing in similar quantities are Triple Threat Autographed Dual Relics (/11). These have a signature, a piece of an event-used shirt and a piece of the WrestleMania 31 canvas.

This set has the first NXT Diva Kiss cards. These have an actual lip imprint from select divas. There are also numbered autographed versions and parallels.

Spinning out of the Replica Belt Plate cards that have appeared in products for a couple of years are Hall of Fame Commemorative Ring cards. These are manufactured relics featuring members of the WWE Hall of Fame. Each has a piece of a manufactured ring embedded in it.
