2016 Topps Tier One Baseball is another all-hits installment for the brand. And while some very basic details on the configuration have been released, there’s still a lot that’s to be revealed.

Sticking with the same sort of box setup it has used in the past, each one comes with two autographs and one relic card.


Scheduled to release in May, on-card autographs are a major focus for the signed cards. Among them are Tier 1 Autographs, which are inserted as a case hit once again.

While every box promises one relic card, each case has a hot box. These come with a fourth card in the form of another memorabilia card. At this point, one-of-one Bat Knobs are all that have been revealed.

Expect to hear more about 2016 Topps Tier One Baseball in the near future.

2016 Topps Tier One Baseball is another all-hits installment for the brand. And, for the most part, not a lot has changed. Some tweaks have been made to the design, but it has the same overall feel.

Sticking with the same sort of box setup it has used in the past, each one comes with two autographs and one relic card.


Autographs




On-card autographs are a major focus for the signed cards. Among them are Tier 1 Autographs, which are inserted as a case hit once again. Base versions comes numbered to 99 or less. Three parallels are all based on the color of the ink: Copper (/25), Silver (/10) and Gold (1/1).

Clear One Autographs are done with acetate. Each is numbered to 25 and no more than 20 players are expected to be on the checklist.

New to 2016 Topps Tier One Baseball are Signature Tools Autograph Relics. These come signed and also have a piece of the pen embedded in them. Yup, pens. Each is a one-of-one. Although this is the first time they’ve appeared in a baseball product, 2015 Topps Star Wars Masterwork had them.

Not all the signed cards in 2016 Topps Tier One Baseball are on the rare side — at least comparatively speaking for the product. Prime Performers come numbered as high as 299 copies. Breakout Autographs take a similar approach to numbering. Parallels for both include Copper Ink (/25), Silver Ink (/10) and Gold Ink (1/1).

Multiple signatures can be found on Dual Autographs (/25) and Triple Autographs (/10). A limited number of Cut Signatures (1/1) are also part of the product. Ten Cut Signature Relics (1/1) add a piece of memorabilia.



Autographed Relics



None of the autographed relics in 2016 Topps Tier One Baseball are easy to find. Autographed Tier One Relics are the most plentiful, numbered to 99. Dual Patch versions are limited to 25 copies while Triple Patches are numbered 1/1. Dual Autographed Tier One Relics (/10) are done as book cards.

Autographed Prodigious Patches return. Numbered to 10, these have large patch pieces. Platinum parallels have five copies each.

Autographed Bat Knobs (1/1) and Autographed Limited Lumber (1/1) both focus on distinct parts of the bat.



Relic Cards

The vast majority of 2016 Topps Tier One Baseball boxes have a Tier One Relic card. Not only are they the most plentiful as far as numbering goes (/399 or less), the checklist is also large. More than 75 players are included. Parallels come in the form of Dual Swatch (/50) and Triple Swatch (/5).

Tier One Relics Legends take a similar approach only with retired greats. The checklist is much smaller although Topps indicates there are more than 15 included. Base versions are limited to 99 or less. These also have Dual Swatch (/25) and Triple Swatch (/5) parallels.

Prodigious Patches come with unsigned versions as well. Numbered to 10, over 20 players are featured.

One-of-one memorabilia cards include Bat Knobs (over 100 cards), Limited Lumber (over 75 cards) and All-Star Relics (more than 40 cards).

While every box promises one relic card, each case has a hot box. These come with a fourth card in the form of another memorabilia card.


Asia-Exclusive Boxes



2016 Topps Tier One Baseball Asia boxes have the same configuration as the regular, more common version. However, there are a handful of exclusives that aren’t found elsewhere.

Breakout Autographs and Prime Performer Autographs both have Red Ink parallels that are only in boxes targeting the overseas market. These are numbered to 5.



Approximately three or four exclusives are in each 12-box case.
