2016 Topps Star Wars Masterwork Trading Cards Highlight the High-End




2016 Topps Star Wars Masterwork takes the Force to the high-end for a second time. When the line debuted in 2015, it marked the first truly premium release for the franchise. Once again, each pack (or mini box) comes with a premium insert such as an autograph, sketch card, memorabilia card or manufactured relic.

Master boxes are made up of four packs.



Base Set




At 75 cards, 2016 Topps Star Wars Masterwork isn’t all that big. However, when you take the higher price into account and just three base cards per pack, it’s not going to be as easy as the average set. Short prints add another layer.

Keeping with the premium theme, base come on thick, 72-point card stock. Expect classic characters to come with different shots from the 2015 set. The Force Awakens has also been added this time around.

Parallels, which combine to fall at least one per pack, are available in Blue Metallic (one per box), Silver Metallic (/99), Green Metallic (/50), Lightsaber Purple (/25) and Gold.



Premium Inserts




Single-signed basic 2016 Topps Star Wars Masterwork Autographs are signed on-card. The checklist is similar in size to the base set with more than 70 signers. The also have multiple parallels.

More autographs can be found in the form of Dual and Triple Autographs.

Those who have collected Star Wars trading cards for some time know that there aren’t a lot of costume and prop cards out there for the franchise. This set has a couple of new ones. The first feature pieces of the second Death Star from Return of the Jedi. These pieces are also used on autographed memorabilia cards that have as many as three signers.

A costume from a Bespin guard has also been added.

A third costume relic, armor from a Stormtrooper in The Force Awakens, is also available. Similar cards were also included in The Force Awakens Series 1.

Manufactured relics come in the form of Medallion cards and a new mix of Stamp cards.

Sketch Cards round out the product’s premium inserts.




Inserts





2016 Topps Star Wars Masterwork has three additional inserts: Aliens & Creatures, Great Rivalries and Show of Force.
Five parallels exist for each of these: Rainbow Foil, Canvas, Wood, Metal and Gold.
