2016 Donruss Optic Baseball Chromes Out Retro Designs

2016 Donruss Optic Baseball takes a Chrome approach to the season’s earlier Donruss release. The company first announced the new brand name at the 2016 Industry Summit in Hawaii. More than strictly reprinting the retro-themed release on shiny card stock, the checklist has been tweaked to add some new players to the mix. Like Panini Prizm and Topps Chrome sets, parallels are plentiful and a focal point of the release.
Autographs lead the premium elements in 2016 Donruss Optic Baseball with two per hobby box.
Base Set

The base set has 100 cards. This is down from the from the almost 150 found in 2016 Donruss Baseball. Also part of the main set are a couple of familiar subsets in Diamond Kings and Rated Rookies. Of the 30 artistically rendered Diamond Kings, there are ten per hobby box. Each pack has one of 35 different Rated Rookies. Some are repeats from regular Donruss but 20 new players have been added to cover early 2016 debuts.
The base set and its subsets have ten parallels. Among them is a color that isn’t just blue but Carolina Blue. Others include Gold, Green Black and one-of-one Gold Vinyl, which in previous Prizm releases have meant a similar patterning as Topps’ Superfractors.
Select base cards also have varaitions. These have five parallels.
Autographs

A big chunk of the autograph content in 2016 Donruss Optic Baseball revolves around Rated Rookies. Rated Rookies Signatures come with on-card autographs. There are also Rated Rookies Retro Signatures that use designs based on Donruss Baseball designs from 1984 through 1987 and 1989. Retro autographs are also hard-signed. Collectors won’t find them in retail packs, either. They’re exclusive to hobby.
Players don’t necessarily have autographs on all six of the versions.
Further adding to the checklist are ten parallels, all of which are numbered to 150 or less.
Other autographs, which include stickers, include Optic Autographs, Studio Signatures Significant Signatures and Back to the Future Signatures that focus on players with their old teams and players from the past. These have five parallels that are a little tougher, numbered to 50 or less.
Inserts

In addition to the autographs and parallels, 2016 Donruss Optic Baseball hobby boxes have six additional inserts.
Illusion highlights 20 current stars with a busy design. This is the only of the basic insert themes that hasn’t been spun out of 2016 Donruss. Masters of the Game is one of those that’s back. Of the 15 cards this time around, five are new.
Other returning inserts are Masters of the Game, Power Alley, The Rookies and The Prospects.
All basic inserts have five parallels numbered to 149 or less.
