2016 Topps Walking Dead Survival Box trading cards don’t have any major elements that are entirely new for the show. However, there is a big change in that it’s the series’ first high-end set from either Topps or Cryptozoic. Done in a format that’s similar to Star Wars Masterwork and Topps Museum Collection, packs come as mini boxes. In each is either an autograph, memorabilia card or sketch card.



Base Set

The 2016 Topps Walking Dead Survival Box base set covers all six seasons of the show. Arriving shortly after Topps’ Season 5 set, these are the first cards to include the sixth. The base set has 50 cards plus another 25 short prints (#51-75) using different images of the show’s characters bringing the total number of cards to 75.

Parallels take a bit of a different approach from the standard colors found in most sets. Getting more visual and down to the show’s gruesome tone, they include Infected (/99), Rotten (/25), Maggots (/10) and Bone (1/1). The different can be found on the sides of the card with the flesh borders. Base cards also have Printing Plates.


Autographs, Relics and Sketch Cards

Based on the initial sales material, basic autographs come with on-card signatures. According to Topps, the checklist also includes some signers that weren’t in their Season 5 set. Parallels add more chase elements as do Dual and Triple Autographs. Multi-signed cards use stickers.

Relics have costume swatches from the show. These also have a variety of parallels and some cards with two swatches.

The hits are rounded out by sketch cards, all of which feature original artwork.


Inserts

Basic inserts fall one per mini box and come with three different themes: Walker Bite Cards, Survival Guide and Kill or Be Killed.

These have the same levels of parallels minus Infected. Numbering for parallels is also the same.

The Walking Dead Survival Box will include extra autographed hits



The first high-end trading card release for The Walking Dead is set to come out  December 21 with autographs and relics spanning the length of the hit AMC series. The Walking Dead Survival Box arrives with on-card autographs of many of the top stars such as Danai Gurira (Michonne), David Morrissey (The Governor), Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon), and Tom Payne (Paul ‘Jesus’ Rovia) – and also a few surprises.


Each box of 2016 Topps The Walking Dead Survival box contains four hits of either a relic card, autographed card or autographed relic card – with one hit in each mini box. But some mini boxes might contain two hits.


The nine dual autograph cards are extra case hits. The dual autograph cards, which utilize sticker autographs, include pairings such as Melissa McBride (Carol) and Jason Douglas (Tobin) or Chad L. Coleman (Tyreese) and Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha).

The surprises don’t end there. Topps added new signers to The Walking Dead Survival Box including Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays the Season 7 villain Negan, and Josh McDermitt, who portrays Eugene.

McDermitt’s autographs are live in The Walking Dead Survival Box while Morgan’s card are redemptions. Morgan’s autograph trading card deal was only recently completed – too late to include his live cards in boxes of The Walking Dead Survival Box – and redemptions were placed into boxes as extra hits.

Each master box of The Walking Dead Survival Box comes with four mini boxes. Each mini box includes five cards with one hit in every pack.

The base set will feature 50 premium cards that will cover the first six seasons of the popular show. There are 25 short-print cards with a photo variation of one of the top characters. Collectors can also find five levels of parallels of the base set cards starting with Infected (numbered to 99).
