2016 Panini Pantheon Baseball Is All Retired Players, All Hits



2016 Panini Pantheon Baseball, a new super high-end product, is all about two things — retired players and hits. The checklist consists entirely of former players. Every card is also either an autograph or memorabilia card.


Base Set




Although it has an all-hits configuration, there is a base set. It revolves around some of the most prestigious milestones in baseball like 300 Wins, 500 Home Runs, 600 Home Runs, 700 Home Runs, 3,000 Hits, 40/40 Club, 5,000 Strikeouts, and 4,000 Hits. Many of these clubs are also popular among memorabilia collectors aiming a particular theme.

No matter the “club,” base cards have three parallels numbered to 49 or less.

Players span several decades and generations, ranging from Babe Ruth and before to Roger Clemens and several of his other recent contemporaries.


Autographs and Memorabilia Cards




As one would expect for a product built entirely on autographs and memorabilia cards, there are plenty of combinations of autographs, memorabilia and autographed memorabilia.

Milestone Scripts are hard-signed and note a major moment from the player’s career. Pantheon Scripts keep with the on-card autograph theme and also have a piece of memorabilia. Additional versions are available with multiple relics. And on top of those are three tiers of parallels, all numbered to 25 or less.

Script 1 highlights a dying breed in pro sports — players who spend their entire career with one team. These cards have two swatches and an autograph.

Metropolis Monuments takes a Mt. Rushmore approach to its design. Each card has four players (and the corresponding memorabilia) from the same franchise.

Sacred Deployments are book cards with three players that not only played for the same franchise, but were in the lineup together. Each player on the cards have two swatches for six in total.
