2017 Topps Gypsy Queen Baseball has some significant changes from previous years. One of the first things collectors may notice is a lower price tag. But that cheaper price comes at a cost. Whereas before hobby boxes had two autographs and two memorabilia cards, now only the autographs are guaranteed.
Also gone are the mini parallels.
Some other tweaks to the configuration have also been made including the addition of an over-sized Chrome-style box topper and a new design for the base set.
The initial 2017 Topps Gypsy Queen Baseball hobby box price should be noticeably different. The direct cost to dealers is more than $20 less than 2016 was when boxes had four total hits instead of two.
Base Set

The 2017 Topps Gypsy Queen Baseball base set has a total of 320 cards. The main part of the checklist, which comes in at 300 cards, features rookies and veterans. A total of 20 retired players and Hall of Famers are included as short prints.
Mini parallels are no more. Also gone are the framed paper parallels. Instead, it’s more of a traditional approach with colored borders. The parallels include Purple, hobby-only Black and White (/50), Red (/10) and Black (1/1).
One thing that’s going nowhere are the variations. Among them are Capless Image Variations where players are pictured without their hats so their haircuts can be on display.
Autographs

One of the cornerstones of the Gypsy Queen brand has been on-card autographs. That doesn’t change for 2017.
Gypsy Queen Autographs deliver the main signed content. These carry a similar design to the base set and have serial-numbered Purple, Black and White, and Black (1/1) parallels.
Autograph variations also appear in the product, although Topps is keeping quiet on the details at this point.
Chewing Gum Mini Autographs are new. As the name suggests, they’re smaller than regular cards. Black (1/1) is the only parallel.
2017 Topps Gypsy Queen Baseball doesn’t have much in the way of basic relics, but there are autographed memorabilia cards. The only non-signed relics are one-of-one Portrait Art Patch Originals.
Autograph Garments pair a signature with either a bat or jersey swatch. One-of-one Black parallels aim to include a button, although this may not be the case for every one.
Laces Around the League Autograph Relics feature a piece of a game-used baseball with MLB Authentication so you can confirm what game it’s from. The theme has been used in past releases but without the signature.
Autograph Patch Book cards use three panels. The central one has both the signature and the patch swatch. It’s flanked on both sides with a pair of images.
Inserts

Although the mini cards may be gone as base set parallels, they live on in at least one insert set. Fortune Tellers Minis predict events for the 2017 season. Each has a one-of-one Black parallel.
Another new insert set, which comes in traditional dimensions, is Portrait Art Reproductions. These have players showcased through artwork.
All told, 2017 Topps Gypsy Queen Baseball hobby boxes have seven insert cards.
Box Loaders

GQ Glassworks is the new box topper for 2017 Gypsy Queen Baseball. Exclusive to hobby boxes, the inserts are done with chromium stock. Cards have numbered Purple, Red (/25) and Black (1/1) parallels.
Select cards also have autographed versions.
