2021 Topps Update Series Baseball wraps up a year-long cardboard celebration of sorts commemorating the company’s 70th anniversary in the sport.

Connected to the flagship Series 1 and Series 2 lines, some elements carry over. Others are exclusive to Update.

Hobby boxes conținue to promise one autograph or memorabilia card while hobby jumbo boxes have one autograph and two total memorabilia cards or manufactured relics.


2021 Topps Update Series Baseball Checklist Overview

The base set has 330 cards. Similar to the Topps Traded releases from back in the day, collectors can expect to find vets with new teams and some early-season rookie call-ups. Highlights and All-Star Game festivities also find their way onto the checklist.

Hobby-only Clear versions are also available, but for only 100 cards. These have ten copies each.

Multiple levels of variations also return for select cards.


InsertsContinuity and nostalgia play out among the many insert sets in 2021 Topps Update Series Baseball.

Among the returning inserts from Series 1 and 2 is 70 Years of Topps Baseball. These use a variety of the company’s designs but with different players so they’re not reprints. Some of these also have autographs, which are numbered to 10 or less.

Topps Cards That Never Were go back and fill in some notable absences in past Topps Baseball sets. These also have Blue, Black (/299), Platinum Anniversary (/70), Red (/10) and Gold (1/1) versions. Some also get the signature treatment (/10 or less).





1986 Topps Baseball wraps up its run. Like 70 Years of Topps Baseball, these are new cards but they stick with the one design. Veterans, rookies and stars from the past are all on the checklist. Parallels include Blue, Black (/299), Platinum Anniversary (/70), Red (/10) and Gold (1/1).


The final 20 Topps Platinum Players Die-Cuts are found in Update Series. This brings the total set up to an appropriate 70 cards. Blue, Black (/299), Platinum Anniversary (/70), Red (/10) and Gold (1/1) parallels can be found along with autographs (/10 or less).


Topps Black Gold throws it back to the iconic 1993 insert set as far as design goes. While the original set didn’t have parallels, this one definitely does with additional Blue, Black (/299), Platinum Anniversary (/70), Red (/10) and Gold (1/1) versions. Certain cards also have autographs (/10 or less).






Topps Tek 70th Anniversary sees the return of the acetate brand, this time as an insert. Only in hobby jumbo packs, these are two per box. These are packaged separately in their own pack.







Art fans can find original artwork on randomly inserted sketch cards, which are exclusive to hobby and hobby jumbo.


At the hobby level, 2021 MLB All-Star Game Commemorative Sleeve Logo Patch Cards make up Update’s manufactured relic content. Parallels come in Black (/199), Gold (/50), Red (/10) and Platinum (1/1). Some also have autographs (/10 or less).






Autographs and Memorabilia Cards

Autograph and memorabilia themes carry over from Series 1 and 2.


Baseball Stars Autographs take an all-encompassing approach with a checklist touching on current players, rookies and past stars. Parallels include Black (/199), Gold (/50), Red (/25) and Gold (1/1). Dual Autograph versions are also available with print runs of 5 and under.


1986 Topps Baseball Autographs get one final installment. Like Baseball Stars, the checklist takes a multi-generational approach. On-card ink can be found here as well.






Topps Reverence Autograph Patch cards, another place with hard signatures, are back, but exclusive to hobby and hobby jumbo packs. Base versions have ten copies with additional Red (/5) and Platinum (1/1) parallels also available.


Cut Signatures are in Topps Update, but good luck finding one. All are one-of-ones.


Major League Material make up most of the memorabilia. These have swatches and pieces of game-used gear. Parallels include Black (/199), Gold (/50), Red (/25) and Platinum (1/1), which is exclusive to hobby and hobby jumbo. There are also autographs (/50 or less) that have their own Red (/25 or less) and Platinum (1/1) levels.


Own the Name Relics, which are only in the two hobby configurations, have letter patches taken from nameplates. Each is a one-of-one, although some players may have more than one letter.


Silver Packs

The 2021 Topps Baseball Silver Packs program continues in Update. Once again, there’s one bonus pack inside each hobby box and two in hobby jumbo.


These have exclusive cards not found in regular packs. If they continue with what was started in Series 1 and Series 2, they’ll be special patterned 1986 Topps Baseball Chrome cards.
