No, 2022 Topps Chrome Black Baseball isn’t a noir-inspired spin on the year’s main Topps Chrome release. Rather, it’s a more premium-leaning standalone release under the broader brand umbrella.
It’s also leaner as far as what’s in a hobby box. Each has just four cards: an autograph, a parallel and a pair of base cards. This also means a much more streamlined checklist.
2022 Topps Chrome Black Baseball Checklist Overview
The base set is a modest 100 cards. However, once you factor in the limited number of cards per box, it’s not an easy one to put together. Veterans and rookies mix on the checklist.
All parallels come with serial numbers:
Refractors – /199
Purple Mini-Diamond Refractors – /150
Green Refractors – /99
Green Atomic Refractors – /99
Blue Refractors – /75
Gold Refractors – /50
Gold Mini-Diamond Refractors – /50
Orange Refractors – /25
Magenta Refractors – /10
Red Refractors – /5
Superfractors – 1/1
The full rainbow of 11 Refractors is up one from 2021. Both Mini-Diamond versions are new. However, the Purple Mini-Diamond cards replace standard Purple Refractors.
Autographs and Additional Inserts
Topps Chrome Black Autographs adopt the same general design as the base set.
Parallels for these include:
Refractors – /150
Green Refractors – /99
Gold Refractors – /50
Gold Mini-Diamond Refractors – /50
Orange Refractors – /25
Red Refractors – /5
Superfractors – 1/1
The checklist also has Super Futures Autographs (/99) that focus on baseball’s young talent. These also have Gold Refractors (/50), Orange Refractors (/25), Red Refractors (/5) and Superfractors (1/1).
Autographs come already encased in a holder.
New this year are Rookie Design Variations. Base versions are 1:12 packs. Red Refractors (/5) and Superfractors (1/1) are the lone parallels for these.
This marks the third installment of the Topps Chrome Black line. It made its debut in 2020.
