A lot has changed for Panini America’s now-legendary Silhouettes subset since it burst onto the collecting scene with a stunning, starring turn as the Rookie Die Cut Material Autographs insert in 2010 Crown Royale Football. The instant-classic design was majestic in its presentation and raised the bar in terms of just how beautiful autographed memorabilia cards could be.

In the years since, the name “Silhouettes” has become synonymous with the most attractive trading cards in the sports collecting universe. Panini America features Silhouettes across all four major sports and they’re as striking on Rookie Cards as they are on cards of current superstars and retired legends. And it is with that premise that we present this spectacular first look at some of 2013-14 Preferred Basketball’s landmark Silhouettes.

They just arrived at Panini America HQ, hot off the presses from the production facility across town. By the time we caught wind that they were in the building, many of the this year’s Silhouettes had already been counted, cataloged and quality controlled before being carefully packed for shipment to the respective players on them to receive on-card autographs.

But we were able to grab some of the rare Prime parallels for many players, including some key rookies, veterans and all-time greats, many of whom are appearing on Silhouettes for the first time in 2013-14 Preferred Basketball. Take a look for yourself in the drool-worthy pre-ink peek below. The next time you see these gems, they’ll be hard-signed.

Panini America Drops First Stunning Pics of 2013-14 Preferred Basketball Autographs



With Game 1 of the 2014 NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs set to tip off later tonight, this is understandably a big day for the NBA. So it’s more than mere coincidence that it’s also a huge NBA day for Panini America. It started early this morning when iCollectPanini.com launched its captivating 2014 NBA Finals promotion. It continues now as we unveil a world premiere preview of the first hard-signed beauties from the upcoming 2013-14 Preferred Basketball.

With its sublime selection of Silhouettes and die-cut Panini’s Choice Award autographs as well as a 600-card base autograph set, it probably goes without saying that Preferred annually ranks one of the most popular releases in the entire Panini America NBA product portfolio. The 2013-14 edition promises to accentuate that reputation.

Each four-card box of 2013-14 Preferred Basketball will deliver three autographs and one memorabilia booklet card. The booklet-card lineup this season includes five new designs, headlined by a Finals Super Prime insert featuring jumbo pieces of memorabilia worn during the 2013 NBA Finals. Collectors will also find 135 unique on-card rookie autographs, including Silhouettes, Crown Royale and the all-new Rookie Revolution.

The product is slated to go live July 9 and we’re sure to have many more previews between now and then. But today, in honor of the start of the 2014 NBA Finals, here’s a spectacular preview to hold you over until tip off.

Panini America Offers a Scintillating Peek at 2013-14 Preferred Basketball Booklets

While many passionate collectors continue basking in the Optichrome-candied radiance ofPanini America’s 2013-14 Spectra Basketball two days after its release, many others are anxiously awaiting what’s next — 2013-14 Preferred Basketball — with a giddy, night-before-Christmas-in-July sense of excitement. One look at some of the booklets and you’ll start to understand why.

Last week, Panini America Basketball Brand Manager Cory Hollingsworth camped out at the company printing facility to help take part in packout for Spectra and to help begin the Quality Control process for Preferred. Thankfully, he also was nice enough to snap a few revealing Preferred booklet shots while he was there.

Today, we’re going to share those images with you as we begin the countdown to next Wednesday’s North American release date for Preferred. The first thing you’ll notice in the following gallery (after you pick your jaw up off the floor) is likely the sublime NBA Finals Booklets featuring massive swatches of game-worn jersey from the 2013 NBA Finals. Simply, you won’t find a filthier series of books this side of “50 Shades.”

Also showcased in the preview gallery below are captivating Vs. and Team booklets that promise to make the five days between now and Wednesday’s release seem just a little more longer. They say you can’t judge a book by its cover. Sometimes, though, you can judge a booklet by the coverage its given here on The Knight’s Lance. That’s certainly the case with Panini America’s 2013-14 Preferred Basketball, which received rave reviews last week based ona jaw-dropping booklet preview gallery. Today we’re bringing you a more complete look at 2013-14 Preferred Basketball by featuring a cadre of specimens unearthed during the recent Quality Control process.

2013-14 Preferred Basketball stays true to its roots by delivering three autographs and one booklet card in every four-card box. The calling-card favorites that have come to define the product return, headlined by the spectacular Silhouettes and Rookie Silhouettes,Panini’s Choice Award Autographs, Preferred Signatures and die-cut Crown Autographs.

New additions to the autograph roster include the colorfully foiled Rookie Revolution andNBA Pride inserts. Clearly, though, the most unique aspect of Preferred Basketball is a checklist of bountiful booklets that has received a distinct upgrade for 2013-14 — beginning with the stunning NBA Finals booklets that feature game-worn jerseys from the 2013 NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs. Each of those cards is game-dated on the back and details the respective player’s performance from the game the jersey was worn.

Other key additions to the memorabilia booklet roster include Jumbo booklets, One on One Rivalry and Two on Two Rivalry booklets, and Rookie Revolution booklets incorporating unique 360-degree photography from the 2013 NBA Rookie Photo Shoot.

Book . . . Keepers: The Prime Possibilities of 2013-14 Preferred Basketball (Gallery)



Rookie rivalries. Sibling rivalries. Conference rivalries. NBA Finals rivalries. Dynasties. Decades. Nasty jumbo patches of game-worn memorabilia. Unique 360-degree photography. Clearly, there’s a lot you can showcase in booklet-card format that might not translate quite the same on a standard 2 1/12 by 3 1/2-inch trading card format.

That’s certainly been the case with Panini America’s Preferred Basketball. The product’s recipe of offering one booklet card in every four-card box generated some of the coolest, display-worthy trading card works of art in the sports card industry in recent years. That trend promises to continue when 2013-14 Preferred Basketball officially releases tomorrow.


While we’ve done our best to showcase some of the unique booklet plot twists heading your way this year, there’s nothing like getting up close and personal with the cards to give you an intimate understanding of what awaits.
