2017 Topps Heritage WWE takes things back to one of the biggest years in wrestling history — 1987. That was the year Hulk Hogan bodyslammed Andre the Giant at WrestleMania III. In the hobby, it was the year Topps brought back the woodgrain borders.

Put the two together, give it a modern spin and you’ve got 2017 Topps Heritage WWE.
Each hobby box has two hits, one of which is guaranteed to be an autograph.



Base Set

The 2017 Topps Heritage WWE base set has 100 cards. As with most WWE sets, it’s a mix of current stars, NXT prospects and retired WWE Legends. It stays true to subsets from the original 1987 Topps Baseball set including the rainbow Future Stars icon and the Rookie Cup for recently debuted standouts on the main Raw and Smackdown rosters.





Parallels come in five colors. Bronze are the easiest, landing every other pack. Other include Blue (/99), hobby-exclusive Silver (/25), Gold (/10) and Red (1/1).





Sticking with Topps Heritage tradition, card are printed old-school style card stock. It’s actually thicker than the original 1987 Topps Baseball stock.

Autographs and Memorabilia Cards

2017 Topps Heritage WWE hobby boxes have two total autographs, memorabilia or manufactured relic cards. The first is an autograph. These take on the same general design as the 1987-inspired base set. Parallels are also similar, coming in Bronze (/99), Blue (/50), Silver (/25), Gold (/10) and Red (1/1).





Dual Autographs come with a pair of signatures. Numbered to 10, these aren’t easy pulls.

While much of the design elements in 2017 Topps Heritage WWE borrow from the 1987 baseball release, Kiss cards are a throwback to the 1987 Topps WWE set. The blue border and TV elements come from the original set’s Superstars Speak subset.

Base Kiss cards are numbered to 99 and have lip imprints from main roster and NXT ladies. Select cards also have autographed versions numbered to 25. Both signed and unsigned cards come with Gold (/10) and Red (1/1) parallels.





On the memorabilia side, Shirt Relics have clothing worn by featured superstars embedded in them. Two different sets of mat relic cards come from the Survivor Series 2016 and NXT TakeOver: Toronto events. All relics have Bronze (/99), Blue (/50), Silver (/25), Gold (/10) and Red (1/1) parallels. Select mat cards also have autographed versions numbered to 10.






Commemorative Patch cards are fairly straightforward. Past and present stars are featured alongside a patch the shows their status as a member of the Raw, Smackdown or NXT rosters or as a WWE Legend.


Inserts

SummerSlam plays a major role in many of the other insert sets in 2017 Topps Heritage WWE. This shouldn’t be surprising as the release coincides with the event, which is one of wrestling’s biggest of the year.

SummerSlam All-Stars are inserted one per pack. These highlight current and past wrestlers who have battled during the summer showcase.

Thirty Years of SummerSlam cards are even more plentiful, falling two per hobby pack. As the name suggests, these take a historical look back at three decades of matches and moments.

Not every match in the pay-per-view’s past has been a straightforward affair. Bizzare SummerSlam Matches (1:3 hobby packs) spotlights the strange.

A third group of ten John Cena Tribute cards are included here as well. This is part of a year-long insert set that has one more installment to come later in 2017.
