As has become customary, another NBA collecting season will realize a heated, high-end finish soon enough with the late-October arrival of Panini America’s 2016-17 Flawless Basketball, the grand-finale juggernaut of a program that will receive yet another upgrade for the new season: This year, every jewel card in the product will be either a Single, Double, Triple or Jumbo Diamond. Each 10-card briefcase of 2016-17 Flawless Basketball will deliver one encased Base or Base Parallel Diamond card, one encased autograph card, six additional autograph cards, one memorabilia card and one autograph, memorabilia or diamond card.

Every card produced for 2016-17 Flawless Basketball will be numbered to 25 or less and every autograph in the program will be signed on-card. Look for the product to once again yield a chase-worthy array of Championship Tag Autographs, Logoman Autographs, Dual Patch Autographs and Jumbo Patch Autographs. The product is slated to arrive in hobby shops across North America on October 18.


The additional highlights of 2016-17 Flawless Basketball are many and include . . .

• All Flawless parallel sets have been upgraded to diamonds. Look for base Single Diamond (numbered to 25), Double Diamond (numbered to 10), Triple Diamond (numbered to five) and Platinum Diamond 1/1s. Every briefcase contains at least one encased diamond card.

• Star Swatch Signatures showcases only the top players from yesterday and today with an oversized patch swatch and an on-card autograph.

• The resume required to qualify for the Greats hard-signed insert is simple: Be great. Look for a checklist that includes Shaquille O’Neal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, John Stockton and more.

• One of the most impressive inserts in 2016-17 Flawless Basketball was inspired by the spirit of the triple-double and includes the featured player, three prime memorabilia swatches and three diamonds. Look for jumbo diamonds on the Triple Double Platinum version.

• The Dual Patch Autographs insert boasts a checklist ranging from rookies to veterans to retired greats. This staple of the Flawless brand features a new design.

Even as the 2017-18 NBA collecting season is causing an industry-wide feeding frenzy for the hottest rookie class in years, it’s worth noting that the 2016-17 NBA collecting season isn’t officially over . . . yet. Indeed, the final product of the 2017-17 NBA collecting season releases Friday and it is a doozy: 2016-17 Flawless Basketball. Packaged in its trademark metal briefcases, 2016-17 Flawless Basketball promises to deliver another stunning finale.

True to its pedigree, 2016-17 Flawless Basketball is rich with the kind of collection-making content high-end enthusiasts have come to expect and admire about the product. For 2016-17, company officials have removed the ruby, emerald and sapphire jewel cards and are including nothing but diamonds. The product also includes Reggie Miller’s first Flawless autographs. On average, each briefcase of 2016-17 Flawless Basketball will deliver one slabbed diamond card, one slabbed autograph or autograph memorabilia card, six autographs, one memorabilia card and one additional memorabilia card, autograph card or diamond card.
