2018 Panini Prizm World Cup Soccer has some massive shoes to fill. The original 2014 set was a hobby phenomenon, which came as a surprise to some not used to seeing soccer move like that. Not only was the product a smash but it helped lay the groundwork for more success in the broader soccer card market.

The surprise may be gone, but 2018 Panini Prizm World Cup Soccer brings with it an evolution of sorts. It has more colorful Prizms parallels and new inserts.





One thing that hasn’t changed is the fact that while there are some big autographs in the product, they’re not the focal point. They’re not even guaranteed in every hobby box.


2018 Panini Prizm World Cup Soccer Base Set

The main 2018 Panini Prizm World Cup Soccer set has 300 cards done on chromium card stock. All 32 national teams headed to Russia are on the checklist.





Select cards have rare Cyrillic Variations. On these, the player’s name is in Cyrillic font, a nod to the host country’s form of writing.

The color of 2018 Panini Prizm World Cup Soccer comes through in the Prizms parallels. These have a rainbow reflection when they’re shone under light. Some also have background patterns. These land 16 per hobby box, double 2014 World Cup Prizm boxes. Three of the Prizms in each box are serial numbered.

Prizms include: Silver, Hyper, Green and White Wave, Purple and Gold Wave, Blue (/199), Red (/149), Purple (/99), Orange (/65), Green Crystals (/25), Camo (/20), Gold (/10), Gold Power (/5) and Black (1/1).

Hot boxes are randomly included with exclusive Lazer Prizms.





Inserts

Every 2018 Panini Prizm World Cup Soccer hobby box has at least seven regular inserts. Those without an autograph have an eighth insert from one of the release’s rarer sets.

National Landmarks are a case hit that use illustrations as a backdrop for a superstar player. These drawings showcase a famous sight from the country. The design is similar to the popular From Downtown cards in 2016-17 Studio Basketball. With all 32 nations on the set’s checklist, individual cards are going to be scarce.

Autographs

2014 Prizm World Cup didn’t need an autograph in every box to be a hit. 2018 Panini Prizm World Cup Soccer is taking a similar approach of making them more like a bonus, like how autographs used to be about 20 years ago in the majority of sets.

What Prizm World Cup lacks in quantity for the autographs, it attempts to make up for in the quality of the players on the checklist. Cristiano Ronaldo, Philippe Coutinho, Wayne Rooney and Robert Lewandowski are some of the signatures confirmed for the product.

The majority of autograph cards fall under the Signatures set.



Dual, triple and quad autographs all have multiple signers.




Road to Russia autograph cards are scarce. These highlight seven players with good showings in the World Cup qualifying rounds.
