2019 Topps Triple Threads Baseball isn’t changing the formula up much. The brand is like an episode of Law and Order in that it’s always dependable. By now, it’s familiar in it’s content and how they’re put together. Both have their surprises, but there’s some safety in how it’s set up. You might not like what happens sometimes, but even when that does occur there’s probably some quality to recognize. And when they’re good? You won’t forget it.







Keeping with the familiarity, hobby boxes have two packs. Both have a handful of base cards and inserts as well as a pair of hits. In one pack, it’s an autographed triple memorabilia card and a jumbo relic. The other has a triple memorabilia card and either a rookie autograph or autographed relic.

2019 Topps Triple Threads Baseball Base Set Basics


2019 Triple Threads has a main set that’s on the small side. But when you factor in the price per box and small number of cards in each pack, it doesn’t mean that it’s going to be easy to track them down.


It totals 100 cards, with both active and retired players.








Parallels are available in Amethyst (/299), Emerald (/259), Amber (/199), Gold (/99), Onyx (/50), Sapphire (/25), Printing Plates (1/1) and Ruby (1/1). Also in the mix are new Citrane versions, which have 75 copies each.


Rookie & Future Phenoms Autograph Relics (/99) return. Although they use different card numbers on the back, these are traditionally categorized as an extension on the base set. Signatures from first-year players and other young players are joined by three pieces of memorabilia.







Rarer versions include Amethyst (/75), Emerald (/50), Onyx (/35), Printing Plates (1/1), Ruby (1/1) and Wood (1/1).  


Autographs


The vast majority of signatures in 2019 Topps Triple Threads Baseball also have memorabilia. The lone exception are Rookie Autographs highlighting some of the season’s top first-year players. All versions have serial numbers including Emerald (/50), Gold (/25), Sapphire (/10), Printing Plates (1/1) and Ruby (1/1).







Triple Threads Autograph Relics return. These are the cards that use letter-shaped windows to spell out small player-specific phrases or stats. Base versions are numbered to 18 with parallels available in Gold (/9), Sapphire (/3), Printing Plates (1/1), Ruby (1/1) and Wood (1/1).







Triple Threads Autograph Relic Combo cards are one of the most notable in the line’s history. Each has autographs and swatches from three different players. Amethyst (/27), Emerald (/18), Gold (/9), Sapphire (/3), Printing Plates (1/1) and Ruby (1/1) make up the various versions of these cards.


New for 2019 are similar 150 Years of Professional Baseball Three-Player Triple Autograph Relics. These have the same formula of three players, three signatures and three pieces of gear. However, they’re tough to pull with just nine copies for base versions along with Sapphire (/3) and Ruby (1/1) parallels. These also have similar non-autograph versions (/9).








One thing that is new in 2019 Topps Triple Threads Baseball are Pieces of the Game Autograph Relics (/18). These have three pieces of memorabilia, all of which are different types. Parallels are limited to Gold (/9), Sapphire (/3) and Ruby (1/1).


Cut Above Cut Signature cards (1/1) take the familiar concept of taking signatures from things like photos, index cards or other documents and embedding them into a card. Going a step further, these also have memorabilia like game-used bat and jersey pieces. Dual Cut Above Cut Signatures with two players are also randomly inserted.






Autograph Relic Book Cards


As usual, 2019 Triple Threads Baseball has some tough autograph book cards. Jumbo Plus versions are highlighted by a massive patch swatch. Letter Plus cards have a nameplate letter to go with two additional patches and the signature. Both of these have no more than three cards plus a one-of-one Ruby parallel. Jumbo Plus and Letter Plus cards can also be found without autographs with similar print runs of three or less.


Windows Into Greatness (/5) use a three-panel format. The outside card panels each have a pair of swatches. In the center is an image of the player along with an autograph. Parallels come in Gold (/3) and Ruby (1/1). Windows Into Greatness is also available without autographs. These are still tough with numbering to just ten copies.






Autograph Deca Relic cards open up to feature ten pieces of memorabilia and a signature from one player. Combo versions have the same general idea, except it’s with ten different players. Both of these have base versions numbered to 10 as well as Gold (/5) and Ruby (1/1) parallels. Unsigned versions are also available with ten copies or less.  



Relic Cards


If there’s not an autograph to go with it, all memorabilia cards in 2019 Topps Triple Threads Baseball have no more than 36 copies.


These start with Triple Threads Relics, Triple Threads Relics Legend and three-player Triple Threads Relic Combo cards. All of these basic triple relics have print runs of 36 for the base versions with parallels that drop from there: Amethyst (/27), Emerald (/18) Gold (/9), Sapphire (/3) and Ruby (1/1).


The new Pieces of the Game cards have unsigned versions as well. These highlight different types of memorabilia. Within the three pieces are a mix of materials. These are numbered to 18 and have Gold (/9), Sapphire (/3) and Ruby (1/1) versions.








All-Star Patches (/9) deliver just that with pieces taken from jerseys connected with the Midsummer Classic.








2019 Topps Triple Threads Baseball has no shortage of one-of-one memorabilia cards. These include Bat Nameplate, Bat Knob and Jumbo Patch Combo book cards. All-Star-themed one-of-a-kind cards come in the form of Majestic Logo cards plus Laundry Tag, Jumbo Sleeve Team Patch, and Jumbo ASG Patch book cards.







One-of-one Jumbo Letter/Number/Logo book cards are also back.
