For most, 2022 Topps Series 1 will kick off the new baseball card season. Not so fast, according to 2022 Topps Sterling Baseball. The super-premium product may have a very different makeup compared to the cornerstone flagship release, but it’s slated to lead off the new card year.
Not only is Sterling all hits, the entire checklist aims to be top-line autographs and memorabilia cards. Every card in the product is either an autographed relic numbered to 25 or less or a one-of-one relic.
Hobby boxes come with a pair of single-card packs.
2022 Topps Sterling Baseball Checklist Overview
Current stars, rookies and past greats are all part of the 2022 Sterling checklist.
Autograph relics break down into several themes including Sterling Swings (hitters), Sterling Strikes (pitchers), Sterling Seasons (commemorating stellar years), and Sterling Debuts (rookies). For each of these, base versions feature an on-card signature and one or two pieces of memorabilia. They also have print runs of 25 copies each.
Although parallels take on a variety of colors, each tier also adds another relic. These include:
- Blue – /10 (three swatches)
- Red – /5 (four swatches)
- Silver – 1/1 (five swatches)
Sterling Splendor Jumbo Patch Autographs (/5) go the oversized route for its memorabilia. Red (/3) and Silver (1/1) versions are also available.

Sterling Sets Dual (/15) and Triple (/10) Autograph Relics feature multiple players. Still, autographs remain on-card. Red (/5) and Silver (1/1) parallels can also be found. For the Duals, Red versions have two memorabilia pieces per player (four total) and three for Silver (six total).

“Unique” relics and autograph relics get their name for all being one-of-ones. These combine to land two per case (approximately 1:4 boxes). These include jersey letters, bat knobs and bat nameplates. Some bat knob and nameplate cards also have autographs.

Topps Sterling Cut Signatures cover not just baseball legends but figures from politics and entertainment as well.
Legendary Relics have three pieces of memorabilia while Legendary Cut Signature Relics have two plus the autograph.
